In our Podcast Removing Cultural Blinders- Mores, we talk about a technical term for behaviors like smoking, drinking, and cussing.

Mores ( pronounced mawr-eyz) are acceptable community views that go without question.

Mores develop the cultural views that shape our worldview of scripture.

We discuss openly the mores within our church family and what that looks like for us as Christians.

 The Book Misreading Scriptures with Western Eyes by E. Randolph Richards and Brandon J. O’Brien has made us question stories that we thought we knew.

In the story of Sodom and Gomorrah, we see that Ezekiel 16:49 states that Sodom’s sin was inhospitality. That being said, Jude 7  states that Sodom gave themselves over to sexual immorality and perversion.

So which is it?

The truth is it is both and yet we seem to gloss over the inhospitality.   In this podcast, we discuss the way the western culture sees modesty vs the way that Paul saw modesty.

Was it the hair or was it the economic modesty that Paul is referencing in Timothy 2:9?

Amy puts Belinda on the spot with a question about failing to become our brother’s and sister’s keeper.  Belinda responds with a breaking heart as she realizes that we have not been true to the scriptures.

Here are just a few of those scriptures;

Romans 13:8

Galatians 6:2

 Do we really see the scriptures as were written during biblical times?

We have begun to realize that we have skewed our view of scriptures to fit our western narrative.

Removing cultural blinders helps us to see everything that the scriptures speak to us.
